If you want to know what Enterprise COBOL can offer, then this book is a must read book. The book will open a new door for COBOL programming. Enterprise COBOL can work with same capabilities with other high level languages. The book has over full examples. All the topics have enough examples to make you familiar with the concept. This course is designed to teach how to manage VSAM and non-VSAM data sets by coding and using the functions and features of the Access Method Services program, IDCAMS. To reinforce the lecture material, machine exercises are provided that enable students to code and test selected IDCAMS commands such as DEFINE, REPRO, ALTER, and LISTCAT.
Introduction • CICS uses three techniques to handle VSAM files within CICS TS: • Non-Shared Resources (NSR) • Local Shared Resources (LSR) • Record Level Sharing (RLS) • In recent years, new VSAM features announced for CICS have been LSR oriented • The major difference between the three techniques lies in the “ownership” of the resources • NSR resources are used exclusively File Size: KB. VSAM record-level sharing: VSAM RLS: An extension to the Virtual Storage Access Method (VSAM) that provides direct record-level sharing of VSAM data sets from multiple address spaces across multiple systems. Record-level sharing uses the z/OS Coupling Facility (CF) to provide cross-system locking, local buffer invalidation, and cross-system.
Read Command Options. Following options can be used with READ command − GENERIC − It is used when we do not know the complete key value. For example, we want a record whose primary key starts with ‘10’ and the rest of the key can be anything. Although the key length is 3 characters, we are mentioning only 2. CICS is a DB/DC system which is used in online applications. CICS was developed because batch operating system can execute only batch programs. CICS programs can be written in COBOL, C, C++, Java, etc. These days, users want information within seconds and in real time. To provide such quick service, we need a system which can process.

Record-level sharing (RLS) is an access mode for VSAM data sets supported by DFSMS and later releases. RLS enables VSAM data to be shared, with full update capability, between many applications running in many CICS regions. VSAM record-level sharing (RLS) enables data sharing across multiple systems in a Parallel Sysplex®.
VSAM RLS is a data set access mode that allows CICS®, batch, and non-CICS applications that run in multiple address spaces and on multiple z/OS systems to access data at the same time. VSAM RLS is designed for online transaction processing (OLTP) with CICS Transaction Server and applications.

VSAM Record Level Sharing. This chapter provides a high-level overview of the VSAM RLS function and its uses. Section 1: VSAM Record Level Sharing (1 mins 57 secs) This section addresses general uses of VSAM RLS in CICS, along with high level guidance on setting up and using VSAM RLS in CICS.
You get all the coding details and efficiency considerations of using the VSAM utility, Access Method Services (AMS or IDCAMS), plus pointers on processing VSAM files in COBOL, CICS, and.
DFSMStvs runs on top of VSAM RLS (Record Level Sharing) and involves other Operating Systems functions. It is a major step toward the enablement of continuous operations (24x7) of CICS VSAM online applications.

Chapter 2. VSAM record-level sharing. General use of VSAM RLS in CICS; Setting up VSAM RLS in CICS. Changes to CICS parameters to support RLS; Altering file definitions to enable RLS access; Application considerations when using RLS; Uses of VSAM RLS in CICS.
Eliminating file owning regions; Improved. VSAM Files we can use in CICS like flat files how we use Cobol programs. READ, WRITE, REWRITE, DELETE As we already know VSAM files can be concurrently accessed by Batch and Online.
VSAM Record-Level Sharing (RLS). This explores a method for accessing VSAM files that gives multiple CICS address spaces concurrent READ/WRITE access to recoverable VSAM data sets.
New CICS function enables sharing of VSAM data at the record-level by CICS transactions in conjunction with MVS/ESA SP Version 5 Release 2 and DFSMS/MVS(R) Version 1 Release 3 or OS/ CICS also utilizes and exploits the MVS/ESA SP Version 5 Release. CICS is middleware designed to support rapid, high-volume online transaction processing.A CICS transaction is a unit of processing initiated by a single request that may affect one or more objects.
This processing is usually interactive (screen-oriented), but background transactions are possible. CICS provides services that extend or replace the functions of the operating system and are more Operating system: z/OS, z/VSE.

It clarifies VSAM functions for application programmers who work with VSAM. The practical, straightforward approach should dispel much of the complexity associated with VSAM. Wherever possible an example is used to reinforce a description of a VSAM IBM.
Hi, I have a CICS online program which reads a VSAM file only once to fetch a record using key field. Now, the requirement is such that I am changing the program to read the VSAM file 6 times using a different key field each time.
